Looking for a challenge this year? Well you’re on a foodblog and Easy Food Magazine has recently launched it’s annual Home-Cook Hero Awards! Coincidence much? I think not, it’s calling out to you! Break out your recipe folder and dig out that dish everyone always raves about at your parties.

Celebrating unsung kitchen heroes all over Ireland, it’s open to entrants of all ages, from children to grandparents and everyone inbetween! With ten categories, you’re sure to find at least one that will let you show off your culinary flair and passion for food.

Judging this year’s competition is Kevin Dundon, Catherine Fulvio, Catherine Leyden (OMG it’s the Odlums lady), Vanessa Greenwood of Cooks’ Academy and it wouldn’t be complete without Gina Miltiadou, publisher of Easy Food Magazine. If you’d like a chance to impress, simply submit a recipe that’s tasty, quick, easy to prepare and I suppose it should also look appealing. Shortlisted contestants will have to prepare it for the judges!

The entry rules are simple – contestants mush have a passion for food and cooking and the recipe is required to incorporate at least one of the award sponsors’ products. Recipes should also be quick and easy, taking between 30 and 80 minutes to prepare and cook, depending on the category. Each entry must be accompanied by 50 words summarising what the recipe means to you.

This year’s categories include:

Best Burger – The best home-made burger recipe.

Cáca Milis – The best cakes and bakes.

Catch of the Day – The best recipe using fish.

Deli-delicious – The best recipe using ingredients from the deli counter.

Fabulous Fowl – The best chicken dish.

Larder Luck – The best recipe using store-cupboard staples.

Take 5 – The best recipe using only 5 ingredients.

Squisitol – Popular Italian style dishes.

Start your day.. the honey way! – The best recipe using honey

Tiny Tastes  – The best kiddie-friendly recipe.

The ten category winners will each receive €1,500 worth of prizes, plus the opportunity to be showcased in the Easy Food Home-Cook Hero Awards Cookbook. If you want to check out the talent from last year, you can pick up a copy of the current Easy Food Home-Cook Hero Awards Cookbook (try saying that 5 times!) in most book stores for only €4.95.

The closing date for entries is the 28th of September 2012 (day before by birthday if anyone wants to send me gifts). For more information visit www.homecookhero.ie
